With springtime on the horizon, the Fraser Valley’s most instagrammable event is back. Expect Vancouverites to file out to Chilliwack en masse to the Botanica Tulip Festival come April to frolic in 13 acres of awe-inspiring flora—and get snaps of it all.
Formerly known as the Chilliwack Tulip Festival, the Botanica Tulip Festival reimagines the annual event set in an idyllic countryside setting, and offers up more than a million tulip blooms—seriously.
The festival has been hosted since 2017 by the Pauls family, who have been farming in the area for over 75 years. This year, vibrant, saturated colours will be on display with 59 distinct varieties of tulips sprouted from 1.5 million planted bulbs. What’s better? Along with meandering through the fresh blooms and decorated pathways, Botanica is offering up a U-pick feature so you can pluck tulips straight from the field and take them home to admire for days after.
For anyone questioning the drive out to the Fraser Valley, Google Maps estimates that the festival grounds are just a one-hour drive from Vancouver—and ever so conveniently, it’s located just off of Highway 1. And with its brightly-hued fields, it’ll be easy to spot.
The one caveat to all of this, of course, is that nature can’t be predicted (as evidenced by our freak, late winter cold snap this past January), so an opening date has yet to be announced. At this point, we know it should be about early April—which gives you plenty of time to start planning your excursion.
